Heading Down a Dark Road

Beginning a blog is no easy feat, requiring the creation of thoughts and transposing those thoughts into words. Making things even harder is initially putting pen to paper (or fingers to keys) and getting things started; which, indeed, has been my problem. But then it happened, ESPN aired a special about German Nazis and Ukrainian soccer players, in a matchup that has come to be known as The Death Match. The Germans and the FC Start team played two games, the first ended in a Nazi loss and prior the kickoff of of the second match, an SS soldier paid the Ukrainian locker room a visit to let them know what would await them if they were to fail in throwing the game. They did not oblige. The final score was 5-3 in favor of FC Start. Following the win the member of the Ukrainian football club were hunted down and sent to the nearby concentration camp where four member of the squad were executed with a single bullet to the head. The remaining players eventually escaped captivity.

What I'm getting at here is that totalitarianism is bad. Very bad. When the state has infinite and unrestrained power, it cannot be stopped, unless, perhaps, with the inception of a world war. Of course I'm not making any sort of inference that we're headed towards any sort of Nazi-state here in the good ol' USA, but there have been things going on around the here that are a cause for concern. For example, the mayor of New York City, the eighth most populated city on the planet, Michael Bloomberg, has called for a ban on sugary beverages exceeding a certain size. It's things like this that make me cringe; it's the thievery of our liberties and the state's inherent feeling of knowing what's best for the people. Our lives are being overrun by big government liberals who live in a fantasy world of elitism where they know everything and you know nothing; you are too stupid to make your own decisions, you are too fat to drink that soda, you don't understand the risk of smoking that cigarette. Our government, on every level, is supposed to be of and for the people, not of Ivy Leaguers and against the commoners.

We must take back our government and take back our lives. A lesson can be learned from the footballers of the FC Start team; stand up for what you believe, do not be afraid, there is no time like the present. We must hold the feet of our elected officials so close to the fire that they blister. Yearn for your life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness; do not let it continue to slip from your grasp. Most importantly, go out and get yourself the biggest Pepsi you can find.
